Make up blog 10 Body Image

The media has such an impacted on how people think they should look by posting it all over the place from magazines to TV adds and movies. By your average person seeing it all the time they get the impression that it's okay to look like a Victoria Secret Model whose 5'10 but in reality we should embrass that we all can't be supermodels. Some celebrities are proud to show off their curves and hate that some magazines photoshop their covers because in a way it's telling them you need to look like this. For example Kate Winslet was on the cover of GQ and she noticed herself that something wasn't right about the cover.
The British issue of GQ magazine went too far in Kate’s opinion: “The retouching is excessive. I do not look like that and more importantly I don’t desire to look like that”. This GQ magazine cover was digitally altered, says GQ editor Dylan Jones in this BBC report. Of the cover photo, Kate said, “I actually have a Polaroid that the photographer gave me on the day of the shoot… I can tell you they’ve reduced the size of my legs by about a third. For my money it looks pretty good the way it was taken.” (PhotoshopNews) Having a celebrity embress her curves its what we need to tell to younger girls and boys because if they hear about celebrities that aren't stick thin and are proud of it, then this will help young boys and girls except themselves. By doing this it helps  by not having an eating disorder and taking diet pills at a young age. We all need to stop and think about what the media is drilling into our brain and remeber its us who suffers not them.

Make up blog 9 The Environment

I'm currently living in the freshman dorms and I have been seeing a lot of trash outside of Sovi. I  see trash on the edge of the lake and in the back parking lot. Students show know how to throw away their trash by now and its sad that they don't do it because it's harming the environment and animals.  Another thing I've noticed when walking in my hall way to get to my room, people leave there trash of old food or boxes out in the hallway expecting one of the cleaning people to throw it away for them. Last time I checked the dorms weren't  a hotel  for us, we live there and have to clean up after ourselves. I feel bad for the cleaning people because some of  the students are disrespectful and don't have manners. I think the people who run the dorms need to be more strict in telling the students to clean up after themselves and if they don't then they should make them pick up all the trash outside of Sovi to teach them a lesson.

When Taylor Swift came out with this song "Never Grow Up" I instantly feel in love with it because it reminds me of how much I've grown up and how fast my life has gone by."You're in the car on the way to the movies. And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off. At 14, there's just so much you can't do. And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots" This lyric definatly hits homes but now that I am moved out and can call my own shot all I want to do is be back home with my family.  It also reminds me of my relationship with my mom and how much it has gone over the years.

"Oh, I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
Could still be little
Oh, I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple"  Life goes by fast so cherish every minute you have.

Flynn Effect and Sleeper Curve

Steven Johnson's Everything Bad is Good for You in part two of the book he talks about how the Flynn Effect related to the Sleeper Curve. The Flynn Effect is about the average IQ rising. People today say that playing video games and watching t.v. lower your average IQ because some people don't realize that you can actually use your brain for that type of stuff. Also with technology advancing these days we use it more and more to help educated ourselves. I agrees with Johnson these two are related to each other.
People who watch a lot of t.v. or play video games are probably raising their IQ, you don't really think about it but your using different sides of your brain to help. For example when you play a video game your using your hand eye coordination. An example for watching t.v. is say you are watching an episode of CSI, your using your brain to help put the pieces together to solve who the murderer is. Technology and all the smart phones we have out today help us use different side of our brain which will help us raise our IQ.

A Modest Proposal

After reading Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal, I have to say it was a very unique essay. He presents a lot of irony. The one peice that stood out the most was in the opening paragraph. He says " These mothers, instead of being able to work for their honest livehood, are forced to employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants, who, as they grow up, either turn thieves of want to work, or leave their dear native country to fight for the Prestender in Spain, or sell themeselves to the Barbados." (355) Right off the bat he is saying how bad it is to have a baby because they cause the mothers not to be able to work, and in the when they are all grown up  they will turn their backs on their country and will the enemy. Thats when he starts to go into voluntary abortion, while he's talking about abortion he goes into how the mothers should kill the babies and eat them. Its a very gross concept that he gives but either way the mothers are killing their baby or babies if they get an abortion.

Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars is a show aired on ABC Family every Monday night at 8:00 p.m. This show is based off the book series Pretty Little Liars. The show is about five friends Aria, Spencer, Hanna, Emily and Allison who live in a town called Rosewood.

The first episode begins with the girls hanging out over summer break at Spencer's house. After being woken up by someone screaming the girls noticed Allison was gone. After looking for her they couldn't seem to find her anywhere. A year goes by and Allison is still missing no one knows what happen to her that night. Suddenly her body was discovered and the policed claimed it was Allison. The girls are upset and can't believe that she is actually gone. After attending the funeral the girls all receive a text message for someone who calls themselves "A". After that first text the rest are threatening and very personal, things the girls only told Allison about. Whoever it is seem to know all the girls secrets and is watching their every move. So the main question on this show is who is "A" and how does "A" know all of their secrets?

There are two main secrets on the first episode. The first one was that the girls we too afraid to tell the police that the night of Allison's disappearance they were all drinking at Spencer's house and that why they really don't remember seeing or hearing  anything from that night. The second secret is that one night the girls where all hanging out and Allison supposedly said that she saw Toby the guy who lives next door peeking in the window, so Allison decided to teach him a lesson. She and the girls walk over to Toby's house and Allison throws in a cherry bomb into his garage without knowing that there are some chemicals in there as well as Toby's younger sister Jenna. Jenna ends up becoming blind and no one knows but Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily that it was because of Allison. Allison was the one who controlled the group and kept every ones secret, now that shes gone none of the girls are safe from those secrets.

In my opinion the longer you keep secrets the more damage it does in the end. The show is very addicting because every time you think you know who "A" is they change it on you and make you think it someone else. I can't wait to finally  find out who it is!!!
